Texas Plumber License Types

The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) issues the following license types:

**Master Plumber** — The highest individual license level. Authorizes the holder to pull permits, run a plumbing contracting business, and supervise all lower license levels. Required to employ Journeyman and Tradesman Plumbers in a commercial context.

**Journeyman Plumber** — Authorizes the holder to perform plumbing work under the supervision or in the employ of a licensed Master Plumber or Responsible Master Plumber. Cannot independently pull permits.

**Tradesman Plumber–Limited** — A limited-scope license for specific plumbing work tasks. Must work under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or Master Plumber.

**Plumbing Inspector** — Authorizes the holder to inspect plumbing installations for code compliance on behalf of a governmental entity.

**Responsible Master Plumber (RMP)** — A Master Plumber who has registered their business with TSBPE and takes legal responsibility for the plumbing work performed by the company.

License Renewal

Texas plumber licenses are issued by TSBPE and must be renewed periodically. Key renewal details:

  • **Renewal period:** Licenses must be renewed before the expiration date shown on your credential.
  • **Continuing education:** TSBPE may require continuing education hours for renewal. Check the current requirements at tsbpe.texas.gov.
  • **Late renewal:** TSBPE allows a grace period for late renewal, but practicing with an expired license is a violation.
  • **Official renewal portal:** [tsbpe.texas.gov](https://tsbpe.texas.gov/)

How Your Record Appears on LicenseStatusVerify

LicenseStatusVerify displays public license data sourced from TSBPE. Your public record includes:

  • Your full legal name as it appears on your TSBPE registration
  • License number
  • License type (Master Plumber, Journeyman Plumber, etc.)
  • Current status (Active, Expired, Suspended, etc.)
  • Expiration date
  • County of record (where available)

This information is public and accessible to anyone — including homeowners verifying your license before hiring. Keeping your license active and your TSBPE registration current ensures your record appears correctly to consumers.

Claim Your Profile

Licensed Texas plumbers can claim their professional profile on LicenseStatusVerify to add business details, contact information, and a service area. A claimed profile allows consumers who find your public record to contact you directly.
